ServiceNow Certifications Are Everywhere. Job-Ready Talent Isn't. Here's the Gap

Demand for ServiceNow skills is surging faster than the supply of job-ready people. That gap frustrates employers and stalls certified candidates. It's also the single biggest opening in the ecosystem.

Here's a strange picture. A lot of professionals hold a ServiceNow certification, and the number keeps climbing. ServiceNow made every on-demand course in its Now Learning catalog free in 2025, which only sped that up. At the same time, Nelson Frank's hiring research puts the number at roughly half of hiring managers who say they can't find ServiceNow specialists who are ready to contribute to a complex implementation right away. K2 Partnering Solutions, a global consultancy that staffs ServiceNow projects, reported that demand for its ServiceNow services grew 55 percent year over year in 2025, while the supply of qualified people grew only 43 percent.

Both things are true at once. A lot of certified people. Not enough job-ready people.

I sit on both sides of this. I've been the contractor delivering implementations, and I've been in the room evaluating candidates for platform roles. So let me be straight about what's actually happening.

The certification is real and it matters. Employers increasingly use certs like the CSA as an initial screen before they'll even look at a resume. But a certification proves you understand the platform's concepts. It doesn't prove you've configured an instance under pressure, cleaned up someone else's update set mess, or explained to a business owner why their workflow request needs to be scoped differently. That's the experience layer, and it's the layer the market is starving for.

This gap frustrates everyone. Certified candidates apply to dozens of roles and hear nothing back. Hiring managers burn months on searches. Projects slip because the team can't staff up. Nobody designed it this way. It's just what happens when a platform grows faster than the pipeline of practitioners around it.

But look at the gap from the other direction and it's one of the clearest openings in enterprise IT right now.

If you're certified and stuck, don't chase another certification. Close the experience gap instead. Get a personal developer instance and build real things in it. Recreate scenarios you'd face on an actual implementation. Learn the parts of the job the exam never touches, like requirements conversations and documentation. The people who do this stand out immediately, because most candidates don't.

If you're hiring, the winning move I've watched work is investing in those willing to learn rather than those set in their ways. The candidate with a CSA, a built-out personal instance, and genuine curiosity will outperform your job posting's wish list within six months.

The gap between certified and job-ready is where careers get made and where smart teams get built. The demand isn't slowing down. The only question is which side of the gap you're standing on.

The Platform Path is being built around exactly this kind of progression from certified to job-ready. If you want in when doors open, the early-access waitlist is right here on this site.
