Now Learning is ServiceNow's own training platform, and as of 2025 every on-demand course across every certification track is free. That is not a knock against it. It is the single biggest reason this ecosystem is worth entering at all: the barrier to serious technical work is normally tuition, and here it's zero.
So the honest question isn't whether Now Learning is good. It is. The honest question is what it's missing, because something is, or every certified admin would already be employed.
What Now Learning actually is
A course library. Videos, reading modules, guided exercises inside a sandbox instance, organized into learning paths by role. It maps directly to the CSA exam blueprint and nothing in it is padded or dumbed down. If you finish the recommended path and actually do the exercises, you will be prepared for the exam.
What it doesn't do
It doesn't know if you stopped. Now Learning has no cohort, no deadline that isn't the one you invent yourself, and no one checking whether you did the exercise or skipped to the next video. It also stops at the exam. Once you're certified, the platform's job is done. What you do with a Personal Developer Instance after that point is entirely on you.
The actual trade-off
If you are the kind of person who finishes self-paced things without anyone watching, Now Learning is very hard to beat on pure cost. It's free and it's accurate. Most people are not that person, which is exactly why the "paper tiger" problem exists: plenty of people have started Now Learning, plenty have even passed the CSA exam off the back of it, and hiring managers still can't find someone who can walk into an instance and build.
Now Learning teaches you the platform. It doesn't build the thing that gets you hired: a finished project you can point to and defend in an interview, reviewed by someone who has actually run this kind of build on a live government engagement, not just on a demo instance.
